The opening ceremony will be held at the Punanga Nui Market, starting at 4.30pm.
Teams competing in this year’s tournament – Arorangi, Avatiu, Ngatangiia/Matavera, Titikaveka, Tupapa and the school teams Apii Avarua and Tereora – will be introduced during the opening ceremony.
These teams will be competing in the Future Stars 11 and under, Rising Stars 13U, Rising Stars 17U and Shooting Stars Premiers grades.
“Rising Stars are trying something new this year with the addition of school teams (Avarua School and Tereora College), who will be using Takuvaine court as their home venue as the club was unable to participate in Rising Stars this year,” said tournament director Jackie Rongo.
“Takuvaine have graciously offered their umpires to support the school teams throughout the competition.”
The tournament will officially be opened by Ron Patia and Kathy Papatua, representatives of platinum sponsors the Bank of the Cook Islands and Bluesky Cook Islands respectively.
Meanwhile, in the opening round of matches tomorrow, Ngatangiia/Matavera will host Arorangi, Avatiu will take on Tupapa at home, and the school teams will play Titikaveka at Takuvaine courts.
Ngatangiia/Matavera v Arorangi, Avatiu v Tupapa, Schools v Titikaveka. Note: Games at Ngatangiia and Avatiu will start at 11 am. All other games will start at 9am unless clubs advise Rising Stars competition manager otherwise.
