Dragonflies off to a winning start

Title contenders Avatiu Dragonflies made an excellent start to the Rising Stars Netball Championship campaign after a big win in the premier Under-19 grade over the weekend.

 

In the opening round of the competition on Saturday, Dragonflies thumped Takuvaine Red Angels 68-31 in the lone U19 clash at the Avatiu Netball Court.

The Dragonflies won their remaining grade matches, claiming the 12 and under 17-6 and 20+ grade 58-38. Their 15 and under team was on a bye.

In the other matches played on Saturday, Tupapa Maraerenga Panthers defeated Ngatangiia-Matavera Seagalz 53-35 in the 20-plus grade and 28-19 in the 15 and under division.

The 12 and under match was won by the Ngatangiia-Matavera Seagalz 24-15.

At the Raemaru Courts, Titikaveka Pearls defeated Arorangi Flames 38-26 in the 15 and under clash.

The Rising Stars tournament was born out of the belief to help develop local sporting talent especially in the junior level, promoting a healthier lifestyle through sport as well as promoting community cohesiveness by taking games back to the outdoor community courts to build grassroots support.
