GET YOUR netball fix at the Tupapa courts today, where all Rising Stars Netball Tournament games in the under-17 and U21 age grades will be staged, starting at 11am.

The netball “carnival” will be a thriller as the six netball clubs on the island are set to put their best netball skills on display in the all-important second round of the tournament.

In last week’s games, Tupapa edged out Titikaveka 44-43 in a tough U21 battle while the club’s U17 squad held off a spirited Titikaveka side to win 23-15 after scores were tied at the end of the third quarter.

At Avatiu, the Dragonflies were given a good run on court by the visiting Takuvaine stars. However, a polished Avatiu U21 side dominated Takuvaine to win 70-46 while the junior U17 battle was a mixed bag for Avatiu as the side battled a depleted but spirited Takuvaine side.

In the end, the Avatiu Dragonflies found their groove to win the game 70-19.

It was proud celebrations for the Ngatangiia Tradewinds club with their talented U17 team winning their second match of the tournament and doing it in style wearing their bright new playing gear.

The Tradewinds held off tough Arorangi Flames squad to stay ahead of and win the match 36-33.

Arorangi won the U21 grade by default although a fun match was staged for the young netters that turned out to represent their club.

Heading into today’s netball carnival at the Tupapa courts, the Avatiu Dragonflies lead the U17 division with the Titikaveka Pearls hot on their tails followed by Tupapa Panthers, Ngatangiia Tradewinds, Arorangi Flames and the Takuvaine Red Angels respectively.

In the highly competitive U21 division, the talented Arorangi Flames are at the top of the table followed by the Tupapa Panthers in second, Avatiu Dragonflies in third, Titikaveka Pearls holding fourth position, one spot ahead of Takuvaine Red Angels.

Today’s draw will see epic battles between the Pearls and Panthers club while Takuvaine and Avatiu will go head-to-head and the Flames take on Tradewinds.

All are welcome and encouraged to get along to the Tupapa netball courts and support the development of netball in the islands.

Food stalls will be available to fuel supporters and players alike.

Games start at 11am with the U17 division for all grades, followed by the U21 games.
