Defenders make winning start

Defending premier netball champions Titikaveka remains on track of a successful title defence after a winning start to their 2016 campaign in the Rarotonga Netball Club competition.


The side defeated Arorangi 73-53 in round one competition at the Bluesky Sports Arena in Nikao on Saturday.

In the other premier clash, Takuvaine battled to a close 53-52 win over Avatiu. The result of Tupapa versus Ngatangiia match was not in when this edition went to print.

In the reserve grade, Titikaveka overcame Arorangi 30-25 while Avatiu defeated Takuvaine 46-31.

The competition is played in nine grades which includes under-8, U10, U12, U14, junior open, open II, open I, reserve and premier.

Competition coordinator Matangaro Maxwell said the opening round saw some exciting games.

 “A lot of parents and supporters were there to cheer the little ones on, some of them being their first time on a netball court.”

The second round of the competition will kick off this afternoon at the BSA.
