Cook Islander Brad Takairangi is expected to be out until week 10 of the NRL season, after copping a stray elbow to the face this past weekend.

The Parramatta Eels backrower fractured his eye socket after contact with Manly forward Joel Thompson in the second half, and he saw out the rest of his side’s loss on the sidelines.

The eight-week layoff for Takairangi is expected to give fellow Kuki Tepai Moeroa a chance in the starting lineup for the side’s next match against the Cronulla Sharks, after he was dropped for the Sea Eagles match.

“Appreciate all the get well messages. Disappointed I won’t be there this week to make up for last week’s game but I’m positive the boys will!’’ Takairangi tweeted after the match.

The 54-0 loss to Manly was the second of the season for Parramatta, after losing to Penrith 24-14 in the season opener.
