The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is an annual celebration around the world of the power of sport to drive social change, community development and to foster peace and understanding.

This day is set to be celebrated by Just Play and partners on Tuesday, April 9 with a village festival at Victoria Park in Avarua from 2.30pm to 3.45pm.

All children between the ages 5-13 years are invited to participate in the afternoon’s activities.

The Just Play Village Festival is a great community initiative that helps get children out and active with their friends.

It is also a platform for children to learn important social messages that will help them lead a healthier lifestyle.

“Showing children and parents that sport is more than just kids playing, that it creates a positive and fun environment where they can learn to be respectful, appreciate all differences, work together, understand making better choices and so many other life skills is so important,” says project manager Michelle Paiti.

“We are always in need of a little help during our festivals so should you have some spare time why not spend it outdoors down at Victoria Park helping out.

“So, parents organise your tamariki for Tuesday afternoon.”
