In round three of the Raro Cars Rugby League Competition 2019, the Eels will be hoping to end their two-game losing streak by beating the Sharks at Arutanga Field.
The Eels went down to defending champions Tupapa Panthers 14-26 in round one before succumbing to a resurgent Ngatangiia Matavera Sea Eagles 10-24 last weekend.
A win is important for the side in order to get their 2019 league season on track.
The Sharks played their opening match last week against the Arorangi Bears at Raemaru Park and lost 24-42.
Cook Islands Rugby League Association competition co-ordinator Tai Nelio said the Eels were confirmed to travel to Aitutaki to play the Sharks tomorrow.
In the past, the Eels have chosen to forfeit the away match against the Sharks due to the cost associated with the travel.
But after two losses, the Meti Noovao-coached side cannot afford to drop any points if it wants to remain in the run for a top finish.
“Losing two games in a row no doubt has put the Eels on fire to register their first win of the season. They are not traveling to Aitutaki for sightseeing or holiday, they will be there to win and to put their course back on track needing the two points,” Nelio said.
“The Eels are also aware that the Sharks is not like a stroll in the park playing them in Aitutaki.
“The Sharks went down to the Arorangi Bears last Friday, and like the Eels, they are eager to register their first win and two points of the season. Both teams going into this game hungry for win.
“It will be down to basics with the team that makes less mistake, dominate up front, finish and execute their game well on the day will come out the winner. Will be a good game to watch.”
