The Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee (CISNOC) is celebrating Olympic Week, starting yesterday through to Saturday.

As part of the celebration, the national Olympic committee will also host the Olympic Day Fun Run this Thursday at the Punanga Nui Markets, starting at 5pm.

“There will also be free health checks available on the day, as well as our educational awareness booth for anti-doping,” CISNOC sports manager Siniva Marsters said.

“Joining our programme this year is the Just Play activities event, hosted by Michelle Paiti and her team.”

The outline of the fun run course is a bit different from previous years, Marsters said.

“We will be starting from the market, from the front of the marketplace, where two marks will be set for the start line. Then heading towards the Avatiu wharf side of the market, coming around the back of the markets and joining up to the Maire Nui Drive footpath, heading in the direction towards the Ministry of Justice.

“The participants will make their way to the Raro Fried Chicken building, turning around there and heading back to the start point. The run can be done either once, twice or three times.”

CISNOC is selling Olympic Day T-shirts, with sizes ranging from small to 2XL in pink and fluorescent colours for $10 each.

Marsters said they would also give away spot prizes on the day and during their radio quiz on 88FM throughout the week.

“All participants will be given an International Olympic Committee (IOC) participation certificate, fresh fruit and water.

“We would like all our codes (athletes/team support personnel/family/friends) to participate in this year’s event. Last year we had a total of 429 participants and we want to hit over that mark on Thursday.”
