It was their first series win in three attempts for the combined team of Turangi, Matavera and Muri.
Town batted first but Country kept them at bay with some dynamic bowling and spectacular fielding.
Opener Parker Daniel was there for a good time but not a long time, smashing three boundaries, including two sixes, before Moni Uini trapped him LBW.
The other opener Nooroto William, meanwhile, anchored down as he smartly combined singles with boundaries – although his partnership with number three batsman Melody Melota was short-lived.
Melota paddled a couple of boundaries before he was clean bowled by Uini for 12, and William followed soon afterwards when he was bowled by Vane Tangimetua Jnr for 29.
Town’s most fruitful partnership, the one that looked like it might win them their third straight Origin, was between middle-order sluggers Deacon Teapa and Davis Teinaki.
They combined for 70 runs, which featured 13 boundary smashes, and Country appeared to be running out of ideas.
The breakthrough came when Teinaki was caught in the deep for 36, and the tail collapsed under the weight of Tangimetua Jnr’s ferocious bowling, combining for 16 runs.
Town were all out for 174, and Country got to work early with Ben Vakatini occupying the crease well on his way to 38.
His partner Tutu Tangimetua fell for a duck in the fifth over, but Country were let off the hook a number of times when Town dropped several catches.
Vane Tangimetua Snr provided the top score of the day with 76 not out as Country cruised to a 175 for four victory.
Country captain Ray Roumanu, stoked with the result, did not mince words in front of his Town compatriots.
“To the Town team – bad luck, you know that there’s only one winner and you’re looking at them,” Roumanu said.
“Maybe next time you’ll put on a better show. Next time I hope you try harder with your catching.”
Rewarded with the man of the match trophies were Tangimetua Snr for his standout innings, Tangimetua Jnr for his four wickets, and Uini for his four wickets and a spectacular boundary catch.
