The Cook Islands Cricket Under-19 men’s side leave for their tour of New Zealand this Friday night.

The players have been working extremely hard on and off the pitch in preparation for the tour and have been fundraising through various avenues to enhance the opportunities the tour offers and to purchase new training gear.

The boys have been training five nights a week and have individual fitness goals they are trying to achieve.

Saturday saw the youngsters play an Invitational Town 11 at Turangi Oval.

Batting first, the Town side were in early trouble before Davis Teinaki bullied the young side with a quickfire innings of 130.

Finishing on 245, Town were very pleased with their effort.

Although the U19s had some success in the bowling department, their fielding let the side down.

When it was their turn to bat, the U19s finished on 185 runs.

Despite the defeat the coaches were happy with the run chase and found plenty of positives to build on in New Zealand.

The boys will continue to train right up to the day they leave.

The team is still looking for a major sponsor and would like to thank all those who donated so far. Any interested sponsors can call Davis 54340 or Shane 72973.
