Town women’s slumped to its second defeat in the series against Varo Media Maroons (Country) on Saturday following their opening leg loss at Turangi Field.
Unlike the first-leg defeat, the second loss was much heavier as the Country team ran rampant to clinch the inaugural women’s title in a massive 71-run win.
Country batted first and scored 173 runs for six with Tekura Kaukura starring again after scoring 57 runs.
In reply, Town stumbled and were all out for 102 runs.
Unlike their women’s team, the Country men’s side was unable to clinch the title over the weekend after going down to a much improved Town, which has now levelled the series.
Country, after an impressive start in the opening leg, won the toss and elected to bat first and were all out for 148 runs in the final over.
In reply, Town easily managed to reach the target with seven overs to spare to register a six-wicket win.
The final leg of the series will be held this Saturday.
