Turangi in the lead

DEFENDING men’s champions Turangi have taken the lead in the Cook Islands Cricket Association weekly competition after an easy win over the weekend.

 

Turangi took on the giantkillers Muri Creeps at Nukupure Park in the feature match of round seven.

Muri batted first and managed 90 runs from 20 overs. In reply, Turangi easily chased the total in the 13th over to win the match.

In another exciting clash, Titikaveka Titans lost to Matavera.

Matavera, who have had a mixed performance so far, batted first to score a massive 190 runs in their 20 overs.

In reply, the Titans fell short, scoring 135 runs, losing the match by 55 runs.

“Huge effort from the boys tonight (Monday) as we finished off the last seven overs from Saturday’s match which was delayed due to poor light,” team skipper Matt Beasley posted on their Facebook page.

“Unfortunately we fell 55 runs short at the end of our 20.”

Former champions Tupapa I maintained their pressure on Turangi on the points table after beating Nikao on Saturday.

Nikao batted first and scored 170 runs in the 20 overs. In reply, Tupapa I with the partnership of Melody Melota and Wayken Punga destroyed the Nikao bowling attack to reach the total in the 14th over.

Tupapa II also won their match beating Avana by seven wickets.
