The wait is over for Turangi as the side is set to make The Computer Man men’s cricket competition grand final after eight long years.

Turangi defeated last year’s finalist Titikaveka Titans in an exciting battle at Titikaveka Field on Saturday.

The side, which defeated Matavera in the qualifiers a week ago, were the underdogs against Titans which lost to Tupapa in the other qualifying match.

In the feature match of the round, Turangi opted to bat first and scored 162 runs for five wickets in 20 overs.

Brothers Elia and Tutu Tangimetua were in top form for Turangi after scoring 48 and 43 runs, respectively.

In reply, Titans tried hard to reach their target but were all out for 135 runs in 17.3 overs.

Turangi’s 27 run win had guaranteed them a spot in the final against three time champion Tupapa.

Titans will play in the third place playoff against Matavera.

In the other men’s matches, Nikao fell short of victory after bundling out in the 17th over with 121 runs against Muri while Arorangi Red Backs defeated Takuvaine.

Muri had set the target of 129 runs after lasting 20 overs in the opening innings.

In the women’s competition, Muri’s win over Takuvaine has guaranteed them a date with Avana in the showdown.

The defending champions avenged their shock loss to TKV in the top four competition a fortnight ago after amassing an impressive 139 runs in the opening innings.

Takuvaine failed to impress in batting and managed only 66 runs.

With top teams this season featuring in the finals, the showpiece are expected to be exciting ones.
