There will be lot at stake in the final round of the round robin competition with the top team after this Saturday’s matches earning an automatic place in the final.
Avana which maintains a strong chase for this year’s women’s title will be all out gunning for a win against arch-rivals Muri.
After beating Arorangi and Takuvaine in their last two matches, the unbeaten Avana will be hoping to maintain their perfect run in the knockout stage of the competition.
Muri whose record unbeaten run came to an end in the opening round of the top four round robin competition against a better looking Takuvaine will be hoping to redeem itself this weekend.
The win has elevated Takuvaine to second on the table while Muri is close behind in third place.
“If Avana can beat Muri this weekend, Avana will top the table and head to the final. However if Muri win their match and Takuvaine can beat opponents Arorangi it could be a three way race on ‘net run rate’ for the final,” Cook Islands Cricket chief executive officer Alister Stevic said.
In the bottom three competition, only a match remains which will be played this Saturday to decide the winner.
“If Nikao can get over their opponents Tupapa then Nikao will win their first bottom three competition winners title.
“However if Tupapa beat Nikao then all three teams (including Matavera) are in with a chance to take the bottom three title.”
