Led by Tupapa and Turangi on top of the table, the competition continues to gain momentum, with teams trying to edge each other off track.
In the main battle today, Turangi, who lead on 16 points, will host fourth-placed Matavera (12) in a match which will provide opportunity for both teams to improve their position.
The arrival of Tiri Toa to Turangi this season has made a significant impact to their bowling line-up, with Vane Tangimetua ‘Junior’ and Elia Tangimetua exceptional with the ball. Tereinga Maoate and Tangimetua are consistently scoring runs and the injection of teenagers Mapu Maoate and Toutika Ioane has lifted Turangi’s fielding exponentially.
Matavera will be led by skipper Ray Roumanu who has been scoring runs at the top of the order and taking wickets with the ball.
The return of Bobby Hansen is an added boost to their bowling lineup, while all-rounders Moni Uini and Ngametua Tariau have contributed with both bat and ball, guiding Matavera to some vital wins.
Tupapa will also have a good opportunity of extend their lead when the side takes on a struggling Muri side.
The defending champions with the likes of Paka Daniel, who has been brilliant with the bat, youngsters Tesl Atiau and Daniel Vailoa and newcomer Kanute Ritaua are expected to overcome Muri with ease.
Muri will be relying on top batsman Rama Taiki and bowlers Mike Hoff and Ngamata Miriau who have been the team’s top wicket takers this season.
