Turangi men’s side leads cricket comp

Turangi men’s side has shot itself to the top of the table in The Computer Man cricket competition after a resounding win over the weekend.


The side thumped Avana on Saturday at Turangi Oval to become the joint leaders with Tupapa Panthers on 16 points.

Turangi scored 203 runs in their 20 overs and in return, the hapless Avana were bowled out for just 70 runs.

Defending champions Tupapa Panthers remain on the track of a successful title defence after edging Tupapa II in another men’s match over the weekend.

Tupapa II after the latest loss remain winless this season on 10th place.

Matavera clawed up to third place on the table with 12 points after their win over Takuvaine. Batting first, Takuvaine managed just 59 runs and in reply, Matavera took five overs to overcome the target with loss of only a wicket.

Titikaveka is also third on the table with 12 points after their comprehensive win over Muri.

Muri could only manage 88 runs from their 20 overs with the Titans winning the match in the 11th over for the loss of just three wickets.

The Arorangi Red Backs are also back in title contention after managing to break into the top four following their win over Nikao. Arorangi scored 178 for four after their 20 overs and dismissed Nikao for 108 runs.

“So after five rounds of The Computer Man competition, Turangi and Tupapa jointly lead on 16 points each,”  Cook Islands Cricket chief executive Alister Stevic says.

“Matavera and Titikaveka have third and fourth locked in with 12 points while five teams Avana, Nikao, Arorangi, Muri and Takuvaine are on eight points each with Tupapa II taking up the rear in 10th spot,”

In the women’s competition, Takuvaine has jumped to third place with an easy win over Matavera.

Matavera could manage just 77 runs before being all bowled out and in reply – Takuvaine after losing two wickets managed to chase the total in just nine overs. The Avana/Turangi lost a spot on the table after losing to defending champions Muri Creeps in the feature match of round five.

The side managed just a total of 49 runs which was easily managed by Muri.

In the other women’s clash, Arorangi defeated Nikao to take them into top four.

Muri leads the women’s competition on 20 points followed by Avana (12), Takuvaine (8), Arorangi (8), Tupapa (4) and Nikao (4).

Matavera is yet to register a point.
