The Cooks national men’s with cricket team bowl into action their international tournament campaign today in a warm up match in Rotorua, New Zealand.

They take on Rotorua’s representative side who are coming off an exciting Attrill Cup win against Tauranga CA, only to go down to heavy weights Mount Maunganui CA in a last ball thriller.

Cook’s coach Nga Emile is excited about playing a team in form, “the ICC tournament is full of quality sides, so we wanted to start our warm up matches against a quality side here in New Zealand. Rotorua are a talented team and in winning form, so for us it’s the ideal team to take on in a warm up match”.

It will be the first opportunity for coach Emile and the players to institute game plans and Emile said he hoped the series of three warm up matches will provide the boys the opportunity of getting some nerves out the system and to get some bowling and batting combinations together.

The Cook’s head to Australia next week to take on PNG, Vanuatu, Fiji, Indonesia, Philippians, Japan and Samoa.

The Cook’s are ranked 8th in the region and according to CEO Alister Stevic the Cook’s have set themselves the objective of achieving a top five ranking, a ranking they haven’t held for over ten years.

Live scoring will be available from 5pm today on CricHQ.com or at Cook’s cricket’s Facebook page. The Cook’s play Rotorua in two further matches tomorrow starting from 12:30pm and 3:45pm.
