Cook Islands Cricket CEO Alister Stevic says that the Croatia visit provides timely preparation ahead of the national team’s international tournament in November.
Ranked a lowly 8th in the region, Cook Islands Cricket have set themselves the target of a top five position at Novembers tournament, a position Stevic says the Cook Islands hasn’t held for over a decade.
“We have some talented youngsters in the team as well as quality senior players. We will need to work our butts off for that top five spot at November’s international tournament however if we can achieve that, we are on our way to realising our ten year objective of being in the top three.”
Stevic says that the Croatia visit is timely for national coach Nga Emile and team manager Mo Marurai to give the boys a tough challenge ahead of the international tournament.
The Croatia team is stacked with talented cricketers including fast bowlers Joey Yovich and Joshua Presland who both bowl easily in the 130kph range.
The national men’s teams’ first match against Croatia will take place today at the Turangi Cricket Oval from 3pm followed by two Twenty20 matches tomorrow at 10am and 3pm in Turangi.
