Celebrations are still going on in the national women’s cricket camp which made history last week by registering the Cooks first ever international women’s cricket win.

The Aero Cook Islands national women’s cricket team are back home now and should be receiving accolades for their effort in lifting the profile of women’s cricket in the Cook Islands.

It hasn’t been an easy road for the national women’s side who have now laid the foundation for the growth of Cooks women’s cricket performance on the international stage as well as inspiring young women across the Cooks to take up the bat.

The team's first-ever win at the 2014 Pepsi ICC East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Women’s Trophy in Japan came after disappointing early losses for the team.

However, in typical Cook Islands fashion, the women propped each other up and believed in themselves to achieve the one goal they all set out to achieve – and that was to register the first-ever international win by a Cook Islands women’s team and to make their people back home proud.

With another tournament this year and the Pacific Mini Games next year the squad will have little rest time before they are back into full time training in the hunt for more wins and a medal in PNG.

The history making women’s cricket team included June George (captain), Marii Kaukura, Phillica Maruariki, Lacyn Rani, Memory Kauvai, Benedicta Matapo, Amanda Mangi, Tina Mato, Antoinette Hewett, Punanga Kaveao, Tekura Kaukura, Jasminda Tuaputa and Daena Kataina.
