Covid-19 Pacific update: More US support

- The total number of Covid-19 cases that have been confirmed in the Pacific is now 255, as of yesterday morning. Guam: 139; French Polynesia: 5; New Caledonia: 18; Fiji: 18; CNMI: 14; Papua New Guinea: 8.

- Papua New Guinea has reported its eighth confirmed case of Covid-19, in Eastern Highlands province. The case is a 45-year old female who presented herself to a health centre two weeks ago after developing fever, shortness of breath and body aches. Meanwhile PNG’s opposition leader Belden Namah called on the government to lift curfews imposed in Port Moresby and other urban centres because of the coronavirus.

- The United States has increased its support for the Pacific’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic by over US$32 million. The bulk of the funds will go to its Freely Associated States with Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau receiving over US$27.5 million from various federal agencies. Other Pacific countries will receive a combined total of US$3.3 million.
