All these so called emergency response outfits certainly spend lots of time talking, travelling around the region, attending workshops, and generally discussing what they will and should do in the event of an emergency. Yet given just such a scenario a few nights ago, not one single group or person can be allocated to answer phone calls from concerned citizens, and alleviate their very real concerns. The situation was fortunately not a serious one, but the “authorities” have no way of knowing that in advance, and should therefore initiate some sort of command centre, just in case. And to top it all off, the police say they will continue “low level” monitoring. The level they and the other outfits are already demonstrating is on such a low level, that we would be better off relieving them of their duties and putting someone in charge who will actually perform when required…not close the gate after the pig has gone.
