Same problems and lack of real solutions

Complaints about speeding vehicles and bikes, the disregard for road rules and just plain idiotic behaviour on the part of drivers is unlikely to be addressed anytime soon, a smoke signaler reckons.

 

“Road safety enforcement has been so slack for so long, that local drivers know they can get away with just about anything – including driving on the wrong side of the road. It’s been this way for a very long time, and it would take a massive effort to turn it around. Of course our under-resourced police say they do their best to make the roads safe, but that doesn’t stop a large number of people from breaking the rules on a daily basis. Before long someone will get hurt or worse, and everyone will be jumping up and down about it for a while, and then all the fuss will subside and it’ll be back to normal. It’s the island way…”
