Get those Smokies rolling in again!

After several months without any Smoke Signals, the Cook Islands News welcomes your contributions once more.

The Chief Stoker has gone missing in action, which is the reason there has been no Smoke Signals published over recent weeks. However, recognising that readers have always enjoyed this part of the paper, the Deputy Chief Stoker has put up his hand and will be collating your contributions in future editions.

When making a contribution, please keep in mind that the same policy will apply as currently does with Letters to the Editor – no personal attacks on individuals – nobody deserves to be denigrated by an anonymous source. Focusing on issues, however, will almost certainly mean that your thoughts will be shared with the rest of our readers.

This is not to say that we won’t consider all Smokies on their merits, and it is the election “silly season” when politicians may be considered fair game – particularly those who take themselves too seriously. The main consideration will be whether any Smokie could be considered to be defamatory, or just in plain bad taste.

But, remember also what the column was originally set up for – to give us all a bit of a laugh as well as to record the offbeat things happening in our communities.

So, if you’ve got something to share you can either text it to 188 or email it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , or call the newsroom on 22 999.
