Having grown up in New Zealand and having spent the next 27 years living here in the Cook Islands, I quickly learnt the economic and social structures in New Zealand were pretty good. The old Kiwi No 8 wire mentality, and their potential to lead the world in the future, where many Kiwis home and abroad are today doing exactly that. The simple pride and knowledge of Kiwis the world over, that their beautiful paradise Godzone they all call home will always be there for them when they return.
Here in the Cooks, our political, economic and social structures have been all over the place.
Lacking vision, direction, cohesion and any sort of a robust plan to maximise our country’s God-given resources for the economic and social well-being of our people, you’d think our government would have used New Zealand’s economic development model, to also drive our economy forward.
Me, I would have sought Big Brother New Zealand’s support in the development of our country, because New Zealand always has a plan, while we don’t. Maybe then we wouldn’t be in this pickle of a mess we’re in now!
