Dear editor,

I note with amusement the reference in a sports story (“Cooks rugby chief resigns”, August 7) to me being “requested” to get onboard with the Cook Islands Rugby Union following the resignation of the president Sean Smith.

I was told of the above article by a former Rugby Union executive who rang me.

I subsequently checked my emails and found one addressed to me from Simiona Teiotu (who was quoted in the article) attached to a thread of emails relating to other business which was circulated to current Rugby Union executive members. The email was sent on Tuesday afternoon and asked if I could attend a meeting on Wednesday.

If I had been contacted personally, I would have told them that I am busy with a project until mid-October and unable to offer any assistance up to then.

Kia manuia.
