Aitutaki smoke signaller needs to do some reading…

Wednesday November 28, 2018 Published in Letters to the Editor

Dear Editor,

To the Aitutaki bigot who wrote a nasty smoke signal about “overstayers” recently.

I believe there were three articles and a couple of great Kata cartoons last week about the immigration issues that have been in the news recently.

None mentioned “overstayers” or “broken rules”, which the smoke signaller subsequently wrote about.

In case the smoke signaller doesn’t know, about everyone purchasing anything in the Cook Islands pays taxes. It’s called value-added tax (VAT).

Christmas in the Park on Aitutaki is free, but it is only possible to stage it because of the many hard-working volunteers, and the donations by many businesses and individuals, such Pearce.

In the Christmas spirit, maybe the food at Christmas in the Park should be free instead of freeloaders profiting from the free event?

To the smoke signaller: Did you miss Thomas Wynne's opinion piece? I certainly don’t always agree with what he writes, but he always makes me think. Maybe you should read this past Saturday's article – or at least the last three paragraphs.
