Recently I read an article in CINews titled, “China’s plan for conquest of the South Pacific”. It was the best article I’ve ever read regarding Communist China’s not-so-long range of ideas regarding their plans for the South Pacific.
As I stated in an earlier letter to the editor, it is my belief that, from the Cook Islands, they want Penrhyn.
The Americans successfully used the small island as a deep water port and airstrip in World War Two.
With some work it would be ideal for small-midsized naval ships. An observation post could also be established. And, the bottom line - a small detachment of military troops could also be stationed there. That is, communist troops stationed in the Cook Islands.
My mother, told me, among other things, that you are judged by the company you keep. Communist China’s main list of real friends includes Russia, North Korea, Cuba, and that most people-loving country…Syria. Do we want to be part of that crowd?
Tim Tepaki’s inputs are nicely-written, supportive articles regarding Communists China’s benevolent and well-meaning plans for the Cook Islands. I do congratulate him for his thoughts and the guts to sign his letters.
However, the thrust of his letters is very evident ... get your money wherever you can, no matter where it comes from to support his pie-in-the-sky, nebulous business plans.
I think the people of the Cook Islands are better than that and cannot be easily bought off.
