New minister gets started on jet-setting lifestyle

Dear Editor,

The Cook Islands political scene has just got worse with the swearing-in of three new ministers.

What about their jet-setting lifestyle?

I have been reliably informed that the new Minister for Corrections is already off in the air to Korea. He hasn’t even had a chance to warm his seat in his new office and he’s right into the same travel and lifestyle as our prime minister.

Then there is the Rakahanga MP who is on his way to Indonesia as the deputy Speaker of parliament, although it is my understanding there is no such position. I bet it won’t be long before the PM and the deputy prime minister will be off flying as well.

Already there are rumblings in the community of the appointments. How can Albert Nicholas be the police minister, when Mac Mokoroa would have been the better choice? And why do we need to create a new Corrections Ministry just for minister George Maggie Angene?

To me it seems nothing more than a bribe. There are capable people in the CIP who would have made better ministers.

Oh well, it looks as though we are in for four more years of the same old behaviour.
