Dear Sir,

I never thought I would write a letter thanking an anonymous smoke signaller to your newspaper.

However, I do so now regarding the smoke signal on 12 June referring to the poor appearance of the frontage of the Foodland building.

CITC is the tenant of that building and has been paying a very substantial rent to the landlord for the last 10 years. We had been pressing the landlord to make urgent repairs to the building but

without a positive response.

On 19 June the landlord agreed to the work to be done to the frontage. Thank you, smoke signaller, for your gentle persuasion. Our thanks to the landlord and its mortgagee also. There will be some inconvenience to the public while this work is being undertaken. We apologise for that.

The contractor is Landholdings Ltd so we can expect the work to be done expeditiously.

Trevor Clarke
