Tale of the three-legged dog a beauty

Monday October 02, 2017 Published in Letters to the Editor

This is for anyone who didn’t get to read last Friday’s CI News sports section.

I would not have had read it had my husband not handed it to me. But when I did read it, I could not believe the story of the little dog waiting outside Vaima restaurant with 96 people about to run a gruelling race across the island. The little guy had no idea what he was in for, and on top of that he only had three legs. He did it in just over an hour, what a trooper!

He collapsed at the end of the race. I hope his owner gave him a big drink of water when he returned home - that’s if the owner even knew his dog was gone.

What a remarkable story. He is the first Cook Island dog ever to run the annual race across the island, as far as I know. And, oh by the way, congratulations to all the other runners!

Editor’s note: We were really taken with that lovely story too. Hopefully we’ll be able to track down that plucky little dog and feature him in CINews soon
