Dear Editor, In your paper 13 May 2014, an article was there about Mark Franklin, who someone pointed out should be deported back to NZ and Immigration is looking into it.

I thought that was really sad because we are all New Zealand citizens, and I know for a fact that there are a lot of Cook Islanders living in NZ who did time in prison and they haven’t been deported back. I used to live in NZ.

Mr Franklin went to court and went to prison for what he did; now that he has done his time, doesn’t he deserve a second chance? Is there any compassion left?

When a person has faced our justice system and comes out, is it the people’s turn then to start judging that person all over again?

Let not our hearts be so hardened – deporting him is not the answer.
