Dear Editor, To the Democratic Party supporters of Ngati Tangiia – there are six candidates urging for our votes to become a Member of Parliament for our village.

This includes one European and one woman.

You vote for who you want to vote.

I humbly beg that you consider a local first before choosing another.

Among the six, do not look down on our own as being inferior. In the last election 2010, Tim Arnold a brilliant European lawyer ran for Tupapa Maraerenga, but the voters chose their own from a lowly position to be their MP.

We have been led, Ngati Tangiia, for nearly 50 years by locals beginning from Sir Apenera Short, Iaveta Short, Sir Terepai Maoate and Atatoa Herman. Please do not change this tradition of Maori’s representing us. In all businesses and organisations here in the Cook Islands, politics is the only one without a white foot standing in it. Ring Dennis Tunui on 27761 if you want to say something.
