Why bigger price increases?

Dear Editor, With the new 15 per cent VAT in force and the Government maybe collecting lots more money, I thought you should know about this problem.

The Cook Island News raised their price by 5 per cent to $2.10, and Air Raro raised their freight rate by kilo by 25 per cent from $2 to $2.50.

Why would this be?

Editor’s note: In the case of Cook Islands News, this is the first increase since 2008 and our costs have increased by far more than the 2.5 per cent VAT increase.
