Cook Islands at maritime meet

Teina MacKenzie, the Pacific Women in Maritime Association vice president, recently attended the World Maritime University 3rd International Women's Conference in Sweden.

 

Rachele Andreani from Maritime Cook Islands was also at the event.

The events had 350 participants from 70 countries focused on the Theme Empowering Women in the Maritime Community.

The event also focused on four themes such as to focus on good practice in partnerships and networking, for achieving gender equality through shipping, port, ocean and marine science and seafood harvesting.

According to the World Maritime University statement the conference also addressed the gender gap in the maritime, oceans, ports, fishing and related industries.

The event identified opportunities to encourage women to pursue careers in the maritime and ocean sectors, and called for action from maritime and other stakeholders in support of achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals that is related to gender equality.
