MORE rainfall has been recorded on Rarotonga this year compared to the same period last year.

According to the Cook Islands Meteorological Service, 1050.4mm of rainfall was recorded from January to the end of May this year.

For the same period last year, 720.7mm of rainfall was recorded.

The highest amount of rainfall, 375mm, recorded this year was in March while the highest for last year, 235.9mm, fell in December.

In total, 1661.6mm of rain was recorded last year.

Although the country is now officially in the dry season, the Met Service is predicting more rain because of the El Nino which is changing the weather pattern and bringing rain and lower temperatures.
