Environment Minister Kiriau Turepu has welcomed an additional $100,000 to be provided bi-annually for e-waste collections.

"E-waste is a continual problem in our small country where we simply do not have the facilities to accommodate the e-waste that is generated by the community."

The Government will dedicate $50,000 in 2014/15 through an Order in Executive Council and then a further $50,000 in 2015/16 to enable the collection to start shortly.

E-waste is a popular name for electronic products at or near the end of their useful life including computers, televisions, cellphones, copiers, and fax machines. Many contain materials that can cause serious health and pollution problems.
