Landlines were down on the island for around an hour, with services resuming around 10 am.
The cause of the outage had not yet been identified late yesterday.
Technical staff were working to identify the reason for the disruption in conjunction with Redcom in the United States - which has been involved in working in the Cook Islands since 1996.
Though the problem was still being looked into, Telecom was able to resume normal services after around one hour by ‘rebooting’ the system.
The results of Telecom’s investigation into the issue are expected today.
