Software upgrade causes glitch

A software upgrade was behind a glitch that affected some landline phones throughout Rarotonga yesterday.

It’s the second outage in two days after a mystery tripping caused internet, landline and cellphone services on the island to go out for up to two hours on Tuesday.

Telecom Cook Islands sales and marketing representative Damien Beddoes confirmed landline services were disrupted for some customers as a result of a software upgrade.

“The issues are directly related to the conversion from the old NEAX telephone exchange to the new HDX exchange as Telecom enters the final stage of this upgrade,” Beddoes said.

“Some customers may experience issues from time to time over the week as we transfer their lines off the NEAX and onto the HDX.”

Beddoes encouraged customers to log faults if they continue as the company completes the software upgrades in the next few days.
