Speaker Rattle returns

Monday June 10, 2019 Written by Published in Politics

Parliament’s Speaker Niki Rattle returns today to preside over the rest of the session, after travelling to Auckland with her sick husband who needed hospital treatment.

Tai Tura, the Cook Islands Party MP for Mauke, was appointed the new deputy Speaker of Parliament to manage the April sitting.

And in Rattle’s continued absence last week, Tura took responsibility for chairing the sometimes fractious debates.

Meanwhile Opposition MP Nooroa Baker, who was also granted indefinite leave of absence to take care of his ill wife in New Zealand, was also absent from Parliament last week.
