Prime minister Henry Puna made the motion to extend the sitting just before 5pm, saying that the members would not be able to sit today and tomorrow.
“Tomorrow we will adjourn for the radiothon (Cyclone Gita) appeal, and then on Friday two of our honourable members are committed to travel out of the country,” Puna said.
“And there is one urgent legislation that has been tabled already, and that is the sister amendment to the income bill that we have just passed, which is the VAT bill.
“Deputy speaker these bills are identical. Of course the opportunity will be given to the opposition members to speak to if they so choose, but it is important to pass it before we rise tonight in all its stages.”
This edition went to print before the extended sitting was complete.
