Election: CIP inches ahead of Demos

New election results show the Cook Islands Party is slightly ahead of the rival Democratic Party.

The results see the Cook Islands Party in the lead with 9 seats, the Demos with 8 seats and One Cook Islands with two seats.

Among the newly-released information, Cook Islands Party candidate Tokorua Pareina beat Democratic Party opponent Tetangi Matapo by only one vote in the previously-tied Tamarua constituency.

One Cook Islands founder Teina Bishop was another successful candidate in the Arutanga-Reureu-Nikaupara constituency in Aitutaki.

The remaining results are expected to be announced tomorrow.
