Government has announced is lifting domestic travel restrictions to and from the Pa Enua from Monday.
Smith said flights would be scheduled where there is sufficient commercial demand. They were reviewing these daily.
“Our tourism business to Aitutaki is the backbone for all inter-island air services and obviously until international border restrictions are lifted we will not see a resumption of anything like normal schedules.”
Air Rarotonga has operated several cargo flights to southern group islands over the past two weeks. Other than that, Smith said their fleet had remained parked.
Prime Minister Henry Puna said the government is confident the Pa Enua community and people would be safe from Covid-19 after lifting the domestic travel restrictions.
“We are confident that virus is not here but as I said we need to be extra vigilant with our border control because that’s the key and that’s the only way the virus can get here. We make sure that it doesn’t get here that means by extension the outer islands will be safe,” Puna said.
“I think at the heart of all these easing of restrictions is the desire to get country back to as normal as possible and I think easing movement is important part of that.”
