The popular goat meat ta renga meals ran out in the morning – but still, people queued politely for orders of barbeque and umu plates at the Mangaia Rarotonga community fundraiser yesterday.

Held at Te Atukura grounds yesterday, crowds continued to come and go throughout the day.

The Deputy Mayor of the island Makitua Tutai, arrived yesterday morning to show his support for the project to raise funds to complete the hostel on Rarotonga. “It’s good to be here and I’m proud of the Mangaia community on Rarotonga who have taken up their own time to prepare the food for today,” he said.

The Mangaia Hostel renovations started last year.
