The Are Pa Metua centre were the recipients of a $1000-plus donation from the ANZ bank last week.

Head of retail Lorraine von Hoff and six ANZ staff were at the Nikao centre to give two separate donations as part of their community initiatives.

Are Pa Metua president Nga Teao-Papatua said the first was a $741.40c donation to a group of elderly people traveling to Mangaia next month.

The interest of the group that is travelling was piqued when Teao-Papatua shared details of her recent trip, when she returned to the island for a family reunion.

“They haven’t seen Mangaia, so this will be their first time to experience what it is like,” Teao-Papatua said.

A weeklong trip, from May 9-16, was funded by ANZ sausage sizzles.

The second donation was a $380 gift made up of coin donations from the ANZ staff. The money will assist the centre’s daily operations.

“It’s one of their community initiative services, that they wanted to give service and they chose ANZ and the Creative Centre,” Teao-Papatua said.

“We feel very honoured and privileged to be given this donation.

“It came at the right time.”
