Sergeant Miria has begun firearms checks in the southern group starting with Mitiaro and Mauke.
With just over two and a half months of the firearms amnesty to go, the Police Service is still encouraging all those in possession of guns to meet the deadline.
Gun owners who have not yet done so, should call at the National Police Headquarters with their firearms for safety checks, registration, and testing and licensing.
A Cook Islands Police Service spokesman said police want to ensure there is full compliance with the regulations.
