Iro Maroroa claimed the heaviest fish prize with a 25.2kg yellow fin tuna on Saturday September 12 for the annual Bond Store ‘Steinlager’ Fishing tournament.

The fish was hooked at 9am out at the Moana Sands area in Titikaveka with an island lure.

Maroroa was pleased to receive the prizes and thanked the Bond Store for their continued sponsorship in support of fishing on the island.

Twenty seven boats registered for the tournament that was held on Saturday 12th September.

Fifty fish were weighed in with total weight of 482.2kg of four species: yellowfin tuna, (18), mahi (22), ono (barracuda 1), wahoo (9).

Kim Mulholland on behalf of the Bond Store, presented the awards and said they appreciated the participation and support from the fishermen.

The results are as follows: Heaviest fish 1st Rangiatea Iro Maroroa, yellowfin tuna 25.2kg, 2nd - Paku Poila yellowfin tuna 18.7kg, 3rd Manakia Paku Poila yellowfin tuna 18.1kg.

Aggregate Weight: 1st Extreme Gavin Henderson 94.8kg, 2nd Lady Simeki Tangi Akama 81.5kg, 3rd Bobi Marie Junior Ioaba 42.10kg.
