Coastal construction works similar to those being done in Vaima’anga are underway in Rutaki to manage coastal erosion.

An Infrastructure Cook Islands feasibility study has shown the erosion is impacting public and private assets where the coastline is affected by high sea wells and cyclone events.

In Vaima’anga the coastal works, also carried out by T&M Heather, are expected to end in September.

Project Manager, Robert Heather Jr said the project protects vulnerable infrastructure assets including underground utility services within the road corridor, private property and associated infrastructure, and the main road from ongoing coastal erosion to storms and high seas
