Yesterday morning, water overflowing the banks of the nearby stream reached the senior classroom doors, with some seeping in the back of the building
But by late morning the rainwater had subsided. “Thankfully there was no damage to the classroom equipment,” said principal Elisabeth Kapi.
“The flood did not cause any serious devastation, but we had to move the seniors up to the main building.”
At a time when the school is emphasising social distancing, Kapi was unhappy at having all the pupils crammed together in the main building – so she made the decision so send them all home early at 1pm.
Senior pupils William Ioane, Marcus Teapa and Taupini Ama were happy to lend a hand water-blasting the verandah and moving desks and chairs to a higher level.
“We are proud of our school and at times like this we know what to do and just get it done and help out.”
