Taio Shipping says it’s cooperating with authorities investigating how a boy went missing from MV Lady Moana.

Seven-year-old Lapana Tupou was lost at sea last week, en route from Rakahanga to Aitutaki.

Josh Taio said Aitutaki police had spoken with crew on board the vessel. He said the boat did have a functioning GPS locator beacon, but said he would not comment any further while the inquiry was underway.

Registrar of Ships Moeroa Mamanu-Matheson said Maritime Cook Islands last inspected the MV Lady Moana more than a year ago, so “it is currently in the window for its annual survey”.
