After blood, sweat and 3200 kilometres of hard slog, it’s finally over. James Talbot yesterday handed a $26,700 cheque to the Creative Centre.

Talbot had walked the length of New Zealand between February and July this year, raising money on a Givealittle page.

Talbot presented the cheque to the Creative Centre Board chair Teresa Manarangi-Trott.

And wife Ani Talbot says there’s another $11,000 coming from an anonymous foundation and from the Marua'ia'i island dance fundraiser.

James Talbot said the target was originally $50,000 then it was increased by the committee to $300,000.

Ani said: “We thought because it was overseas it could be achieved, it was disappointing but the Centre is always grateful if anyone wants to help.”

She said the challenges aside from the walk itself was that James transition back to the normal life in the last months has been emotionally, physically and mentally challenging, James has to adjust mentally not to walking and hiking as programmed in New Zealand.

Ani said everyone who donated via cash direct or sent money via bank transfers into James account in Rarotonga were also transferred to the Givealittle page.

She said this included the ladies who walked around the markets collecting donations for James.

Teresa Manarangi-Trott congratulated the committee and James and supporters who continued to support the centre.
